    North Beach | afternoon activity

Hours: 24/7 Admission: $12 for a beach permit

    About

North Beach is one of the top five urban beaches in America. It’s near Harbor Bridge and offers souvenir shops, hotels, and beach-front restaurants. It’s over a mile long and have a concrete walk for jogging, roller blading, bike rides, walking your pooch, etc.

    What They’re Saying

I am a resident in corpus christi and i can tell you north beach is NOT a tourist beach for swimming. there are jellyfish in that water that come out at a specific time i believe noon (not sure too sure) and i’ve seen way too many families come from out of town and their children and themselves get stung. this beach is truly just for looks, dipping your toes in, volleyball and sunbathing. literally go to any other beach corpus has to offer or if you feel like driving out bob hall pier.

Blackbeard’s On The Beach | dinner

    Hours: Mon-Sun 11am-10pm

    About

Blackbeard’s took home the winning title from the 2016 North Beach Seafood Wars at the Texas State Aquarium. They are best known for their Baja Tacos, Seared Tuna, and pirate memorabilia that can be located throughout the restaurant that late owner Steve Bonillas collected before his passing in 2012.

“Sit at the bar and check out our crazy collection of stuff – from piratey to rock ‘n roll,” the restaurant website states. “If you’re at the bar when we’re getting ready to close, watch the bartender pour a drink to leave at the bar for our resident ghost – caught on camera.”

Whether you’re seeking seafood, classic American meals, or loaded Nacho’s, you’ll be sure to discover whatever it is your tastebuds crave at Blackbeard’s On The Beach.

    What They’re Saying

We visited Blackbeard’s after seeing a review on our hotel that included “the purple place across the street is yummy.” Our waitress, Christina, was friendly and helpful. She made a recommendation to my daughter who is 10 yo, that the child’s potion may be a bit small and suggested a larger portion without going into a full size adult meal. She was right and making the adjustment worked well. My husband’s salad was fresh and filling. My kids said the fries are awesome. My shrimp was good – a little bland but cooked well with a nice crispy batter. The jalapeno hush-puppies we’re indeed yummy. The Brownie Explosion we had for dessert was delicious!! If we go back, I plan to try one of their “specialties.”

    What They’re Saying

Had looked up dive bars in Corpus on trip adviser and the Blue Marlin was rated #2. After visiting the aquarium we stopped in for an adult beverage or two as the Blue Marlin was a stones throw away. What a great place! Bartender was very friendly and there was quite an eclectic group of patrons. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. Trip adviser was spot on with their rating!

If you’re wanting to swim in the ocean, this is the beach you want to go to. Pack up for the day and have a cookout on the beach. You can drive your vehicle in the sand, too! I loved my time while at Padre Island National Seashore and definitely recommend it as a day trip.

Hours: Daily from 6AM to 2:30PM

    About

Andy’s Country Kitchen is “where the locals go.” This historic community brunch staple has been around since the 50s, first starting out with the name Andy’s Coffee Cove. In 1978, Andy’s moved to its Shoreline Dr location and was renamed Andy’s Country Kitchen at that time.

Since 2008 the restaurant has been owned by Agie Dominguez, a customer-favorite waitress at Andy’s for over 20 years.

    What They’re Saying

We saw that trip advisor had indicated Andy’s as best restaurant in Corpus Christi. So we had to try it. A wait at 10 am on a Wednesday informed it must be good. I had the country breakfast a little bit of everything. my wife had the breakfast enchiladas. The food was great as was the service. Trip advisor on the money again.

    About

The USS Lexington is the last aircraft carrier from World War II. During the 80s, the U.S. Navy decided to replace the ship to something more contemporary due to the ever-increasing maintenance costs to upkeep it. The USS Lexington was replaced by the 90s. Corpus Christi then created a task force to get the “Blue Ghost” to the city which was successful and on Jan. 1992, the 16-deck ship made it’s final resting spot at North Beach, Corpus Christi.

The museum has five tour routes: 3-D mega theater, Lockdown on the LEX, Escape Rooms, mess deck eatery, and a flight simulator. It displays military artifacts and harbors over 20 aircrafts. An elevator operates from the hangar deck to the flight deck.

    What They’re Saying

The USS Lexington is many things. Small isn’t one of them. First off, there are 4 tours areas. Choose if you want to do all 4 in a day or just a couple today and a couple another day. We thought we’d spend a few hours here. We spent about 5 hours touring the Lexington! The exhibits are thorough, well prepared, featuring the entire history of the Lexington and more. What a museum!

    Snoopy’s Pier | lunch

Hours: Daily from 11 AM to 10 PM

    About

Snoopy’s Pier is hard to miss when commuting through Corpus Christi. The restaurant has an on-site fish house and is a shrimp breading facility. The restaurant was a 1993 addition and has since taken the consecutive title for the best on-the-water dining in Corpus Christi.

    What They’re Saying

Love Snoopy’s! Had the fish n chips which were so good, not greasy at all! And their coleslaw is my favorite, no mayo. I switched out the fries for the puppies and it was all delicious. We also had the boiled shrimp which was a little pricey for 10 shrimp but it was very good. The staff were very friendly and of course the view is amazing. Went back for drinks and sunset, saw the dolphins and beautiful views. If you want fancy – don’t stop here. This is casual, order at counter and seat yourself. Pefect beach vibes!

On August 8, 1950, Harmon Dobson launched the first-ever Whataburger #1 in Corpus Christi. The burger stand offered something new to burger-lovers: “a burger that was so big, they had to hold its five-inch bun with two hands. It was an instant success, and Harmon began to expand the business to other markets,” according to Whataburger.com

The sweet and spicy bacon burger, Whataburger Patty Melt, and Honey BBQ Chicken Sandwich are all-time crowd favorites. Don’t forget that they’re open 24/7, so if you get that after-hours or early-morning craving, try out the limited-time Spicy Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.

Oil and gas wells pumping our economy and our freedom, to the wind turbines moving with the breeze which gives you reasons to visit our city. The beauty of nature when you see corn and wheat. The fields above it. The wind turbines between them and the oil rigs – the most diverse economy in the world. In Texas, everything is big! Our beaches are big. Our food servings are big. Definitely did not disappoint. The rest of the staff was amazing as well. The other waitress was the cutest and super friendly and even chased a customer down because they left something in the booth…legit took off sprinting when she realized they left something. Now that is service. They had someone playing live piano in the background and do saxophone and jazz nights as well! On Saturday nights they do a comedy show too! The mussels are perfect, shrimp cooked perfect, sauces rich and on point. For dessert…LIMONCELLO MASCARPONE!!! I’m still drooling over it. Light, fluffy, taste is spot on. The sauce (they call it chili gravy?) is not what we are used to in CA also….as it tastes more like traditional chili – but it was great! Beans and rice were good…..guacamole also was pretty good…..I ate WAY too much which says something! OH! and I also enjoyed the traditional Margarita! Would not hesitate to eat here again…..OFTEN!

Selena Museum | second morning activity

    Hours: Mon-Fri 10am-4pm, Sat-Sun CLOSED Admission: $5 for adults and $3 for kids (4-12)

    About

Whether you are a fan of the late singer or not, everyone should visit this historic marker. Built by Selena’s family, The Selena Museum was created to celebrate the life of the Mmmm the beloved Latin-American singer. The museum includes a tour of the singer’s stage costumes, her red Porsche, Grammy awards, etc.

    What They’re Saying

This is a small, but an intimate museum. It has Selena’s clothing, awards, car, etc. As a parent who has lost a son, this has to be a constant painful reminder of their loss. For the people that complained about her father being abrupt, I know the pain they endure each day, with all of her reminders, and memories. I’m glad we went. It was a tremendous loss of such a beautiful young lady. God bless your family.
